Though from the games I’ve played, I always had issues with the villains. 4 and 0 are probably equals in terms of main character development. I won’t spoil why just case have played them. A bulk of 6’s issues was in the final chapter. A bulk of 5’s issues was in part 1 but were fixed towards the end of part 1. When I first played it I felt the same when finished 4 but after playing 5 and 6, I think those games might be better story wise than 4 although each them have their own problems. Ryuji easily my favorite villain, I have yet to finish Like A Dragon but I think my opinion will stand once I do finish it.Īs for Yakuza 4, ehhh. I also found the whole Jingweon Mafia plot to be convoluted at times, though the saving grace of Kiwami 2 was Ryuji Goda though. It’s funny how in every character profile of Yumi and recap of Yakuza 1 & Kiwami, Yumi is mentioned to be Kiryu’s one and only love which makes it seem like Kiryu didn’t care about Sayama. I dislike they focus so much Sayama’s romance with Kiryu only to write her off in Yakuza 3 by sending her to America and having occasionally break up with Kiryu although she was ready to die with him at end of Kiwami 2. Personally I’m not a huge fan of Kiwami 2’s so I’m not going to sit here and defend it. Spending time with the Ryudo Family and the Morning Glory kids was wholesome though and it’s the story itself isn’t bad just not comparable to the previous two games. I’m not saying 1’s story was anything insane but it was rather simple and a nice start to the series and Kiwami being a remake could only do so much, they fleshed out Nishikiyama reasoning for doing what he did and that was good enough. Really hardly got any backstory on Mine until the final fight and destroy Morning Glory and sending Tamashiro to kill Nakahara who ended up killing Rikiya instead. Meanwhile Mine tried to become the 7th chairman and to do so he had to team up Black Sunday behind the scenes. They spend majority of the game focusing the military base and resort being built on Okinawa when really that the most irrelevant part of the story because it was only plan by the FBI to lure out Black Sunday and capture Andre Richardson. I don’t me wrong I like Yakuza 3 but story is better than those. (Spoilers do not need to be tagged on /r/yakooza, so browse with caution.)
